SCBT Wins Bank Enterprise Award
COLUMBIA, SC - On November 9, 2011, Donna J. Gambrell, Chairman of the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI) for the United States Department of the Treasury, announced the recipients of the fiscal year 2011 “Bank Enterprise Awards” which this year totaled nearly $22 million.
South Carolina Bank and Trust is one of the 77 depository institutions across the nation selected to receive a Bank Enterprise Award (BEA).
“Through the BEA Program, the CDFI Fund recognizes the key role played by some mainstream depository institutions in promoting community revitalization through the provision of essential financial services, credit, and investment capital,” said Nate Barber, senior vice president of SCBT. “We are committed to providing community development activities like increased lending, investment and specialized banking services within economically distressed communities in all of our markets whenever and wherever possible.”
According to CDFI Director Gambrell, “This year’s awardees also stand out as depository institutions that acted upon the need for economic growth in underserved areas generating significant impacts for communities that have traditionally struggled to obtain financing.”
John F. Windley, president of SCBT, said, “We are extremely pleased to have been recognized by the U.S. Department of the Treasury for our community revitalization efforts. This award simply reinforces our commitment to reinvest time, energy, and financial resources in the communities we call ‘home’”.
