Examples of Scams & Fraud
Scams and fraudulent attempts can happen in many different ways. Here are a few examples below.
A person could receive an email from an “noreply” email address stating that their card has been used overseas. The email will show transaction dates and amounts. The email directs the recipient to click on a link that directs them to a website.
Never click on links in an email that you are not sure who it came from. A customer can always log in to Online Banking to verify transactions or call a local branch.
Another common scam is through text messages. A person would receive a text saying that his debit card had been locked and asks for the person to reply with their 15 digit card number.
Please note that SCBT will never text you to ask for any personal information.
