One of the most common types of online fraud is called Phishing. Phishing is when a criminal impersonates a legitimate organization (usually a financial institution) and attempts to obtain your personal information. This can be done by phone, email, fax or website.  Here are some tips to help protect you against email fraud.

  • If you receive an email from someone you don’t know do not open or click any links within it as they could be malicious. You should delete it immediately.
  • Do not disclose any personal information to anyone that you did not initiate communications yourself.
  • Change passwords frequently and do no use birthdays, child’s name, or Social Security Numbers. Use passwords that include letters and numbers so that they are not easily discernible.
