Joe Mac Bates, Jr.
Joe Mac Bates, Jr. joined the SCBT Trust Asset Management team in 2012 bringing years of Trust Real Estate Management experience to our trust team. Joe Mac earned his B.S. in Agricultural Economics at Clemson University in 1968. He then served in the USAF as a C-141 Pilot and began his real estate career in 1972 as a licensed agent/broker with Tom Jenkins Realty. He held a S.C. Real Estate Appraiser License from 1991 to 2006. As a CCIM Candidate, he successfully completed the five National Board of Realtors, Commercial Division Courses. Continuously in the real estate industry, Joe Mac worked as a Trust Officer/Real Estate Advisor with SCNB/Wachovia Bank/Wells Fargo Bank for more than 25 years.
Raised on a farm in Lower Richland County, Joe Mac and Annie (“Mrs. Clemson”), his wife of 46 years, now live in the Upper Dutch Fork area of Richland County where they are active participants in the Life of Union United Methodist Church. With an emphasis on family, history, tradition and friendships, they enjoy entertaining in their “old home” recently constructed with heart pine available from his great, great grandfather’s two-pen log cabin from the 1840s. They have three sons and six grandchildren.
