women drinking coffeeQ. If I send money to someone who has never used the Popmoney service, how do they get the money?

A. They will receive a notification after you initiate the payment that will direct them to register on They will need to enter their bank account information in order to claim the money.

Q. For someone who has never used the Popmoney service, how many days do they have to claim the money?

A. If the recipient has never registered for Popmoney, they will have 10 calendar days to register and claim the money. The money will be removed from the sender's account on the date they select to send the payment. However, if the money goes unclaimed, the sender will receive the money back after the 10 days has passed.

Q. Does the sender or receiver pay a fee when they use Popmoney?

A. There is no fee to receive money through Popmoney. There is only a $0.50 fee per transaction to send money, but no reoccurring monthly fee. Please see a banker for details.

Q. What information do I need to know about the person I wish to send money to?

A. Popmoney allows you to send money to virtually anyone in the US, using only their first and last name and e-mail address or mobile number. We will only use the e-mail address or mobile number to notify a recipient of the payment and how to claim the money. The money is sent directly from your account to their bank account.

Q.  How long will it take for the person to receive the money I send through Popmoney?

A.  If both sender and receiver are registered in the Popmoney system, funds can be received in 1-3 business days. If the person receiving the funds is not registered, the timeframe will begin after registration and their accounts have been verified.

Q.  Is there a limit to how much money I can send through Popmoney?

A. Limitations may vary. If you are sending more than $100 in a 24 hour period, it may take longer than one business day to transfer funds. Please refer to your confirmation page for a specific deposit date.

Q. Is the Popmoney service secure?

A. Yes. Popmoney uses the same security standards as Online Banking and BillPay to protect your information. We monitor all payments, and proactively identify potentially fraudulent payments and/or suspicious activity.

Q. How can I change my personal information after I sign up for Popmoney?

A. Sign in to BillPay and click the "Popmoney" link. Next, click on the "Preferences" tab. Select the information you need to update and enter the appropriate changes.

Please note: Any changes you make in the Service Setup of Popmoney will be reflected on your entire BillPay account.  If you change your email address or preferred account, it will change on your BillPay account.

Q. What kind of payment accounts can I use with Popmoney?

A. You can only use payment accounts with check writing privileges. For example, Checking and Money Market accounts are accepted, but Certificate of Deposit and Savings accounts are not.

Q. If I receive money through Popmoney, will it be automatically deposited into my account?

A. Yes, if you have automatic deposits enabled on your account. 

Please note that this change will also change the account you pay bills from through BillPay.

Q. How do I set up automatic deposits?

A. Go to the "Preferences" tab within Popmoney and click "Edit" under the Automatic Deposits Settings. Next, select "Yes" and choose your checking account where you want funds sent through Popmoney to be deposited. Please note you will be required to validate the email or phone number. A verification code will be sent to you.

Q. Why do I need to validate my email address or mobile phone number?

A. This is a security feature that helps to ensure that you have access to the email address or mobile phone number and that you have entered the information correctly.

Q. Can I set up recurring payments?

A. Yes, you can under the "Send Money" tab. Simply click the link "Set up a Recurring Payment" when you initiate a new payment. From there you can select how often.

Q. Can I cancel a Popmoney payment?

A. Yes. Go to the "Activity" tab, find the payment you would like to cancel and click the "Stop Payment" button. If the money has already been deposited into the receiver's account, you will not see the "Stop Payment" button.

Q. Is the Popmoney service available outside the U.S.?

A. No, the Popmoney service is only available for use between bank accounts that are located in the United States.

Q. How do I cancel my Popmoney service?

A. Go to the "Preferences" tab and select the option to disable your service.

Quick Facts about Canceling Your Service

  • Any pending payments are cancelled. Popmoney displays a list of the pending payments before the service is cancelled.
  • You no longer have access to your payment history. You can download a copy of the history for your records.
  • If you decide to use Popmoney in the future, you must sign up for the service again.
